March 10, 2022 – Canadian Premier League (CPL) – Cavalry FC News Release
Calgary, AB – Cavalry FC touched down late last night, returning from a 10 day training camp and series of friendlies in Monterey, Mexico.
The club enjoyed 9 days of concentrated training and played three friendlies against local professional clubs, going 1-1-1 (a win, a loss and a draw). Head coach and general manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr. was very pleased with the camp, the pre-season progress and the chemistry the club is showing in preparation for the 2022 Canadian Premier League season.
“This was a great opportunity to go away together on a valuable pre-season camp to help build our match fitness, playing identity and continue to form our team chemistry. We can’t thank our partners at IA Sports enough for the work they did to host us and provide such competitive games. Given that the Mexican clubs we faced are currently in mid-season form, this was designed to test us and put us in an environment we’ve not yet experienced. Except for a few minor injuries, we came through this test unscathed and ready to face the second part of our pre-season plan”. – Tommy Wheeldon Jr. (Head Coach & General Manager, Cavalry FC)
The players, coaching staff and sports science team all returned in good health and will return to training tomorrow in preparation for 2 final pre-season games later this month. A number of players, recovering from some minor preseason setbacks, were not able to travel to Mexico, and stayed in Calgary to continue their managed recoveries. They included Marco Carducci (lower body), Jose Escalante (lower body), Tom Field (lower body) and Tyson Farago (lower back). All will join the club when training resumes tomorrow at The Macron Performance Centre.
