Carlos Vela Scores One and Sets up Another as LAFC Claims 2-0 Home Win over FC Dallas

June 24, 2021 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Los Angeles FC News Release

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) earned a 2-0 win over FC Dallas on Wednesday night in front of a sellout crowd at Banc of California Stadium. Carlos Vela gave LAFC the lead after just four minutes, and he provided the assist on Latif Blessing’s second half strike that clinched the three points for the home side. With the win, LAFC improves to 3-3-3 on the season for 12 points.

LAFC took the lead after just four minutes as Carlos Vela scored his first goal of the season. After playing a short pass to Eduard Atuesta, Vela made a run forward into the box and got the ball back from Atuesta before firing a left-footed shot into the net to give the home side a 1-0 lead.

Vela continued to threaten the Dallas goal, striking the post in the 12th minute, but it would take until the 69th minute for LAFC to increase their lead. Latif Blessing played a long ball forward for Vela on the left wing, and the Mexican international’s low cross was directed into the net by Blessing. The goal was originally called offside, but was given following video review, making the score 2-0.

Goalkeeper Tomas Romero made his MLS debut for LAFC, stopping the only shot on goal that he faced to earn a shutout, which was LAFC’s first since the season-opening win over Austin FC.

LAFC returns to action on Saturday, June 26 when it hits the road to face Sporting Kansas City. That game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.
