Brahim Díaz spoke at a Spain press conference today as he hopes to be involved against Greece and Sweden.

For the first time in years, Milan finally seem to have a competent #10 and Brahim Díaz’s excellent performances from the start of the season have earned him a call-up by Spain coach Luis Enrique.

Brahim already scored for the senior national team, but the upcoming matches against Greece and Sweden would be his first opportunity to play official matches with La Roja.

Today the 22-year-old spoke at a Spain presser and said the following, as reported by AS.com:

On his situation after having COVID-19: “I’m fine, I’m better. I got through COVID in the best way. I’m in a good shape and I’m very happy to be here. I’m very grateful to the coach for the welcome.”

On Zlatan and the Spain-Sweden duel: “When we are there then we focus on the club. In the end it’s an important game for them and for us.”

On qualifying for the World Cup: “I cannot imagine a World Cup without Spain. Two finals are coming. We have to focus on Thursday and then Sunday. We have to win, we have to be in the World Cup.”

On the importance of the absentees of Spain: “I’m very grateful to the coach and my teammates. The most important thing is not whether there are absentees or not, but to win on Thursday. I try to continue as much as I can both offensively and defensively.”

On his reaction to the call-up: “I continue to perform. I want to be at a good level to be here and be rewarded. I had a very good reaction. Everyone dreams of playing for the national team. The most important thing is to focus on Thursday and go to win.”

On whether the play-offs would be a failure: “We have to focus on Thursday. The closest thing is Greece and we have to think about playing well and winning.”

On a possible future at Real Madrid and what Luis Enrique told him when he arrived: “What Luis Enrique told me remains in the locker room… as for the other thing, I cannot say anything more. I’m a Milan player, I’m at Milan. Now the most important thing is the national team and not to think about my future.”

On how he fits into Luis Enrique’s scheme of play: “I can play in various positions. He decides. I can play inside and outside. In the end I try to contribute what I can and he decides. I’m there for him and for the team. Apart from being a good coach, he is very close and is a good person.”

On the change of mentality at Milan: “Now I have more minutes, I feel important and it gives me motivation and confidence. It’s about playing matches so I can show my qualities.”

On the World Cup: “I think we have to focus on the present. We have to win and in the future we’ll see. Now I’m confident and being here is a dream come true.”
