Bolivia eye return of key trio for Uruguay clash

CUIABA, Brazil, June 22 (Xinhua) — Marcelo Moreno, Luis Haquin and Henry Vaca have ended their obligatory coronavirus quarantine and could be available for Bolivia’s Copa America Group A clash with Uruguay, the the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF) said on Tuesday.

The players have been in self-isolation since testing positive for COVID-19 on June 12, the day before the tournament began.

“The footballers arrived in Cuiaba and were subjected to exams … as per the competition rules,” read a statement on the FBF’s official website.

It added that all three were in “perfect health” and were ready to resume training with their teammates, pending the latest test results.

Both Bolivia and Uruguay need to win Thursday’s clash in the western Brazilian city of Cuiaba to keep alive their hopes of progressing to the Copa America knockout phase.

Bolivia lost their first two matches against Chile and Paraguay while Uruguay fell to Argentina before drawing with Chile.

The return of Moreno, in particular, would be a major boost to Bolivia head coach Cesar Farias, given his team’s lack of potency in attack so far this tournament.

Moreno is Bolivia’s all-time highest scorer with 25 goals in 83 international appearances.
