BUENOS AIRES, July 13 (Xinhua) — Boca Juniors have reached a deal to sign midfielder Martin Payero on loan from Middlesbrough, the Argentine club said on Wednesday.
Then 23-year-old will be tied to Boca until June 2023, when the Buenos Aires outfit will have the option to make the deal permanent.
“We are very happy with the signing of Martin, which required a lot of effort from everyone concerned,” Boca sporting director Jorge Bermudez said.
Payero made just 14 appearances for Middlesbrough after joining the English second-tier side from Banfield on a three-year contract last August.
Boca are currently 14th in Argentina’s Primera Division standings with just three wins from the first seven matches of the season.
Last week, the Buenos Aires giants were eliminated from the Copa Libertadores in the round of 16 by Brazil’s Corinthians.
