BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Luis Vasquez struck late as Boca Juniors ended a six-game winless streak with a 1-0 home victory over Patronato in Argentina’s Primera Division on Saturday.
Vazquez headed in from close range in the 85th minute after substitute Exequiel Zeballos beat his marker and delivered a precise cross from the left-side of the penalty area.
The result at La Bombonera came four days after Boca sacked manager Miguel Russo and replaced him with former Argentina midfielder Sebastian Battaglia, who had been working as an assistant.
It marked Boca’s first win of the season, lifting them to 20th in the 26-team standings with seven points from as many outings. Patronato, who have 11 points, dropped to seventh.
In other Argentine top-flight games on Saturday, Central Cordoba drew 2-2 at home to Platense, Huracan held Godoy Cruz to a 1-1 draw in Mendoza, Velez Sarsfield romped to a 5-1 home win over Lanus and Racing Club won 3-0 at Arsenal Sarandi.
