Beijing Guoan have announced the loan signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster He Zhenyu.
Also known as He Dongda, the 19-year-old Dalian native has been developing in the Wolves youth setup since joining from Notts County back in 2018.
His progress has been watched closely by officials in home nation, seeing the versatile forward, who is capable of playing as a striker, a left-sided winger or even in the number 10 position, feature for the China Under-18s national team.
Since progressing from the Under-18s to the Under-23s squad at Wolves, He Zhenyu has struggled to feature often and the loan move to Beijing will hopefully give him an opportunity to move his development forward.
While talented, and fitting the U23 designation that teams across China need to satisfy, He Zhenyu is likely to be a fringe player under new boss Slaven Bilic, who will be tasked with getting the capital city club back to championship success.
Spells with the Under-23s and first-team could see He Zhenyu play regular minutes, with appearances in the cup the perfect opportunity for him to showcase his talents on a bigger stage.
A number of Chinese players have come out of the Wolves academy in recent seasons, and Beijing Guoan may be using this loan opportunity as a chance to assess what future potential He Zhenyu has.
Landing a promising young Chinese youth international is a positive for any club in the top tier, so bringing in players that have been developing abroad is a sensible move in the long-term.
