Atlanta United Draw Philadelphia Union in Leg Two of SCCL Quarterfinal

May 4, 2021 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Atlanta United FC News Release

CHESTER, Pa. – Atlanta United drew with Philadelphia Union 1-1 in the second leg of its 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal match. Santiago Sosa scored his first professional goal; however, it was not enough to overcome the aggregate deficit and Philadelphia advanced to the semifinals.

Pushing numbers forward, Atlanta dealt with numerous Philadelphia counterattacks throughout the first half before grabbing the lead in first-half stoppage time. Marcelino Moreno started the play with a pinpoint pass to Sosa on the edge of the box. With Leon Flach draped over him, Sosa brilliantly shielded off his defender, turned on goal, took a touch and clinically placed his shot to the far post, past a diving Andre Blake for a 1-0 lead.

Atlanta continued to dominate possession throughout the second half and forced three saves by Blake, but it ultimately couldn’t close the deficit. Philadelphia continued to counter and Kacper Przybylko equalized in the 88th minute to seal Philadelphia’s place in the semifinals.

Atlanta (1-1-1, 4 points) returns to MLS action Sunday when it travels to play Inter Miami CF (1:00 p.m., ABC, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game, La Mejor).
