Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reflected on his side’s convincing 6-0 victory away to West Brom in the Carabao Cup second round.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a hat-trick as Nicolas Pepe, Alexander Lacazette and Bukayo Saka were also on the scoresheet.
Arteta told Sky Sports: “It was really good. This is a tough place to come. To score six away from goal and keep a clean sheet, very happy.
Kane and his failed Spurs exit is a modern football fable
“The attitude the team had from the beginning [was good]. We were disappointed not to win the two games in the league.
“When you lose the most important thing is to win the next match to get some confidence. We scored some good goals.”
Arsenal’s two latest signings Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale started the match for the Gunners in what was a comprehensive victory.
“[Odegaard and Ramsdale were] very good, the both of them. Martin gives us something different we don’t have with any other player. Aaron looked very comfortable. He’s a big personalty.
“He [Ramsdale] hasn’t trained a lot with us. He’s a really young goalkeeper who has done a lot in this league already.”
The Gunners may yet make more signings before the window closes, but Arteta admits it is more likely to see outgoings rather than incomings.
“I don’t know what will happen [in the transfer window]. A few days to go. Some exits are planned.
“As you say, this [Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sead Kolasinac leaving] is speculation. While they are here we try to treat everybody as good as we can, give them minutes. They have incredible attitude so when we can reward them with minutes because they deserve that.”
Arteta was delighted for Aubameyang who has built up some much-needed confidence against the Baggies:
“He’s a really happy character,” he said. “He needs that connection with people, with his family, friends and the fans. I think that’s something really positive for him [having fans back in the crowd].
“To get some minutes and score three goals for his confidence I think it’s going to be great.”
Arsenal have had a difficult start to the season, losing their first two Premier League matches against Brentford and Chelsea.
However, Arteta says that the spirit is “positive” within the squad:
“The spirit has been really positive to be fair. I’m pleased with the result but I’m even more pleased about the preparation in the last few days how much they want to turn the situation around,” the Spaniard said.
“The togetherness that the players are showing, how much they want to turn the situation around. I’m really happy for them and the fans that we can give them something to cheer today.”
