BUENOS AIRES, July 19 (Xinhua) — Gabriel Carabajal scored one goal and set up another as Argentinos Juniors rose to the top of Argentina’s Primera Division standings on Tuesday with a 2-0 home victory over Boca Juniors.
Carabajal put the hosts ahead with a 23rd-minute strike before providing the pass for Gaston Veron’s 42nd-minute header.
The result left Argentinos Juniors with 19 points from nine matches, ahead of second-placed Atletico Tucuman on goal difference.
Having lost four of their past five matches, Boca fell to 12th on the 28-team standings.
In other fixtures on Tuesday, Arsenal Sarandi drew 1-1 at Racing Club, Atletico Tucuman won 1-0 at home to Sarmiento, Platense clinched a 2-0 home win over Central Cordoba and Aldosivi drew 1-1 at Colon.
