England fast bowler James Anderson says the wicket of Virat Kohli was a big moment as his side hit back on day two of the First Test against India.
The English had been bowled out for 183, with India 4-125 at stumps in reply, as Anderson claimed two key wickets to keep the hosts alive at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge.
Anderson dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara for 4 before having Kohli caught behind first ball.
The wicket prompted a big celebration from Anderson, who tried to turn the momentum of the Test.
“We knew if we got one wicket we could maybe get a cluster – and that’s what we did,” Anderson said.
“We stuck to our task really well as a group. I thought it was a really good fightback.
“To get a couple of quick ones like that was important, especially Virat, with him being such an influential player for them. It’s always good to get him early.”
On his celebration, he added: “It was an outpour of emotion really, getting the team back in the game and getting their best player out.”
Anderson finished the day with 2-15 from 13.4 overs, while Ollie Robinson took the other wicket, along with a Jonny Bairstow run out to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane for 5.
KL Rahul (57no) and Rishabh Pant (7no) will resume at the crease on day three.
Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board also confirmed on Thursday that Jofra Archer will miss the T20 World Cup and Ashes in Australia due to an elbow stress fracture.
