BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) — Julian Alvarez struck his fifth goal of the season as River Plate extended their unbeaten run to eight matches with a 3-1 win at Central Cordoba in Argentina’s Primera Division on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Argentina international winger thumped home a long-range effort just after the hour mark following Jorge Carrascal’s first-half opener.
Leonardo Sequeira then converted from the penalty spot for the hosts before Braian Romero put the result beyond doubt with a low finish four minutes from time.
River remain second in the 26-team standings, two points behind leaders Talleres Cordoba, who won 4-1 at home Rosario Central earlier on Saturday.
In other Primera Division fixtures, Banfield secured a 2-0 home win over Atletico Tucuman, Arsenal Sarandi prevailed 1-0 at home to Lanus and Gimnasia won 3-1 at Aldosivi.
