Masry named former Esperance boss and two-time African Champions League winner Moine Chaabani as their new coach, the Egyptian Premier League club announced on Sunday.

The Port Said-based side made the announcement in a short statement on their social media accounts without revealing any details about the deal.

Former Tunisia international midfielder Mejdi Traoui was also brought in as an assistant to Chaabani, Masry added.

The 40-year-old was a serial winner at Esperance, steering the club to back-to-back Champions League titles in 2018 and 2019.

He also led Esperance to three Tunisian league titles but was shown the door in July after the team suffered a humiliating 4-0 aggregate loss to eventual winners Ahly of Egypt in the Champions League semis.

Masry quickly moved to bring in a replacement for Ali Maher, who opted not to renew his deal at the end of last season after falling out with the club’s board over its transfer policy.

Maher helped the team finish fifth in the Egyptian Premier League last season. They will take part in the African Confederation Cup, the continent’s secondary club competition, this term.
