Ajax fans let off fireworks for astonishing pre-match light show before heroes thrash Borussia Dortmund 4-0 as Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham fail to fire in Amsterdam

Ajax supporters let off pre-match fireworks before their 4-0 demolition of Borussia Dortmund, covering the Johan Cruyff Arena in smoke and light.

European stadiums are accustomed to flares being let off during games, but fans somehow snuck fireworks into the stadium before blasting them out of the home end.

The Dortmund fans had a light show of their own in the away end, but it was nothing compared to the bewildering scenes at the other side of the stadium.

Marshalls had to clear up the debris before kick-off, with Dortmund’s players then tasked with mastering the intimidating atmosphere.

The game began under a cloud of smoke, and it barely had time to clear before Ajax were 1-0 up in the 11th minute.

The Dutch champions fired in three more goals in an utterly dominant display as manager Erik ten Hag looks to have created a side just as good as the team he guided to the 2019 Champions League semi-finals.

West Ham’s record signing Sebastien Haller was once again on the scoresheet, making it six goals in three games in Europe as he continues to prove the Hammers wrong.

A £45million buy for Premier League side back in 2019, he’s now lighting up Europe with a move to Amsterdam rebuilding his confidence.

England’s Jude Bellingham, though, looked despondent post-match as Dortmund players went to thank their travelling supporters after losing the first game of their Champions League campaign.

Former PSV forward Donyell Malen was embarrassed after his Dortmund side lost to his former Eredivisie rivals.

“This night is horrible,” he said. “We are not proud of this. Ajax deserved to win.

“Ajax played with lots of intensity and were very good on the ball, we couldn’t do anything about it.”
