£100 million Chelsea star Lukaku could return to Serie A

Chelsea face West Ham on Sunday, hoping to return to winning ways after a disappointing defeat at home to Arsenal on Wednesday.

Thomas Tuchel’s side were beaten 4-2 by the Gunners at Stamford Bridge, just a week after exiting the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid after a 6-4 aggregate defeat.

That leaves just the FA Cup remaining for the Blues in terms of chances for silverware, as they face Liverpool in the final next month.

Timo Werner scored again on Wednesday, though, continuing his fine run of form of late, while Mason Mount has also impressed and set up Cesar Azpilicueta for the Blues’ second goal.

One player who continues to disappoint though is Romelu Lukaku, who hasn’t scored for the club in the league or Champions League this calendar year.

All three of Lukaku’s goals in 2022 have come in the FA Cup

The Belgian spoke openly of his unhappiness in London earlier this season in an interview, and has scored just five league goals all season.

Now it appears that the striker, who returned to Chelsea last summer for a fee just shy of £100 million, could be on his way back to Italy.

The 28-year-old returned to London from Inter Milan, where he scored 64 goals and won the La Liga title last term, but he could now be joining the club’s bitter rivals, AC Milan.

According to Goal, the player is now valued at around £77 million, a fee that the Italian side would struggle to pay.

His £325,000-per-week wages are another issue, although a potential takeover of the Serie A side could make a move possible.

Middle-eastern investors are currently in talks to take hold of the club, and would likely sanction a big-money move in the summer.

Chelsea’s ongoing ownership saga could also have an impact on a potential deal, with new owners potentially deciding to cut their losses and get rid of a player who isn’t working well with the current manager.
