Liverpool comfortably strolled to a 4-1 win over city rivals Everton at Goodison Park and claim the Merseyside derby bragging rights on Wednesday night.Â
Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah scored in the opening half as Liverpool rushed to a 2-0 lead before Damarai Gray halved the deficit.Â
Salah extended Liverpool’s lead in the second half before Diogo Jota wrapped up the win with a fourth goal.Â
It was an explosive encounter from the first whistle, with both teams trading blows as they sought to assert themselves in the match.Â
It was Jurgen Klopp’s side that took the lead through in the ninth minute when Henderson neatly controlled a decent pass from Andrew Robertson before smashing an unstoppable drive into the left side of the goal from the edge of the box.Â
It was 2-0 shortly afterward as Salah received a well-taken defense-splitting low pass inside the box and scored a beautiful goal.Â
The hosts however hit back just before the break, when Gray found the back of the net after he was put through by Richarlison with just the keeper to beat.
He took his shot early from the edge of the box and scored beautifully into the right side of the goal.Â
Salah then returned in the second half to grab his brace, before Diogo Jota completed the rout late on.Â
Man City win
In another match, defending champions Manchester City picked yet another win away from home, this time at Aston Villa.Â
Ruben Dias and Bernado Silva scored in the opening half for Pep’s side, and Ollie Watkins got the consolation for Steven Gerrard’s team.Â
The win, their fourth in a row, ensured they kept pace with league leaders Chelsea, who won 2-1 away to Watford.Â
