Knole Park and Stourport won promotion to Division One after finishing first and second in the Division 2 National Tournament at Telford.

Knole Park had won all five games in qualifying from the South pool and were equally dominant at national level, winning all four games, with Stourport finishing five points behind. Canterbury just missed out on promotion, drawing 5-5 with Stourport in both teams’ last game as Canterbury fell two points short of a promotion place.

Beeston ended up with four points with Ipswich, third place qualifiers behind Knole Park and Canterbury in the South pool, struggling as they lost all four matches.

As with the Men’s competition, Division Two National only had five teams after Bedford withdrew before the weekend. Bedford had finished third in the Northern pool behind Beeston and Stourport.

At Telford, Stourport beat Ipswich 10-3 and Knole Park defeated Beeston 8-3 in two high scoring games. Canterbury began their campaign with a 6-3 victory over Ipswich, with Stourport edging out Beeston 4-2 for their second win of the day. Knole Park joined them with a 5-2 win over Canterbury in Saturday’s last match.

On Sunday, Knole Park beat Stourport 4-2 in the first match to go three points clear at the top. Canterbury and Beeston lost ground in a 2-2 draw before Knole Park thrashed Ipswich 13-1 to clinch promotion. Stourport and Canterbury were battling for the second promotion place, but Canterbury only led once when the teams met, 2-1 after 13 minutes, earning a point and the 5-5 draw with a last minute penalty corner conversion.

The final game of the competition confirmed that Ipswich would finish fifth as Beeston won 7-2 in the battle for the wooden spoon.
