1. Go Robust RB
You want to secure those RBs early on in the drafts as this is the most scarce position
2. Add a Lot of Depth
Always have a backup plan for a backup plan. I always like to have 5-6 RBs on my roster even though I only ever need to start 2. Have tons of depth at each position at all times.
How I like to think of it is that imagine not having to rely on the waiver wire at all. Having depth will allow you to dig into your own roster and be self-sufficient.
3. Do Not Follow the Consensus Rankings
If you do what everyone else does you will not win. The ranking should never be used to help you win your leagues. They are simply a guideline and never use them as advice to help you win. This is why I created the 16 Rounds draft solution. You are able to get all the optimal players to draft in each round there and not worry about the rankings.
4. Anticipate
Make sure you think 5 steps ahead or more in a fantasy football draft. You don’t want your players to get sniped from underneath you. Know who you are going to draft and make sure you are aware of when they are coming off the board. Anticipate and don’t be late on grabbing the players that you want and need on your rosters. Don’t sleep and let someone else take your favorite players.
I recommend doing a lot of mock drafts so that you are aware of the ADPs and don’t get sniped.
5. Balance Your Roster
Always draft secure players early on and take some risks later on in your draft.
6. Wait On Kicker and Defense
These positions can be streamed and waited on later in drafts. Kickers are literally the last position I draft. I like to however get a top 10 Defense if I can on my roster. Either way, I look to stream both these positions throughout the season.
7. Anchor your team with an Ace QB
Always anchor your team with a great upside and consistent QB. The QBs can deliver each week giving your team a ton of points and momentum. With QBs, you are more easily able to see who the studs are and make sure your team has one.
8. Aim High on the Depth Charts
Always aim to get the WR1, RB1, and TE1 on their respective teams on your team. Aim high on the depth charts and don’t settle for WR 2-3’s on team rosters.
9. Don’t Buy the Hype
Don’t just draft a player based on their name. Odell Beckham is a good example of this years ago when he busted 4 years in a row. Do not draft a player based on the name.
10. Confidence
Mindset and confidence are a major part of winning your league. Believe in yourself and the players that you draft.
