Monday Recap I Fantasy Basketball I Razzball

Many cat lovers don’t just have one cat. I don’t understand it but if it’s akin to the Lay’s commercials of “Betcha can’t eat just one!” then I get it. I’ve seen the shows with the lonely woman who dies and has dozens of cats feasting on her festering corpse. Yuck. Having so many cats would seem to be a big f’ing problem. First of all, the more cats, the more food that is needed. Cliques and territory. More cats would bring prison rules to the landscape. I’ve seen cats fight. They go so illmatic that Nas would be motivated to start sampling the fracas. Poo and pee. The literal shit would be everywhere because, unless you had a kitty litter for all, there’s no way cats would patiently wait in a line like at an NBA arena. If given enough time, I’m sure I could come up with many more reasons why having many cats would be an issue but I got things to do, people to see, and blurbs to write. Which brings me to Karl-Anthony Towns. The KAT of the NBA. Normally, I trash KAT a bit because KAT doesn’t seem to have that dog in him. I’ve always acknowledged KAT’s fantasy greatness though because KAT has few weaknesses and provides a solid base to build a team around. But the time with Jimmy Butler exposed some things about KAT that brought doubts to KAT’s ability to lead a team to the championship. Last night, all of that was shoved into the drawer for at least one night because we had not one KAT, not two KATs….We need some Dr. Seuss in the house because we had 60 KATs:

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
60 17 3 1 0 6 7/11 19/31 15/16

I wish I had photoshopping skills because putting KATs face would be chef’s kiss. KAT had scored at least 50 points only one other time in his career, a 56-point performance against the Hawks back in 2018. KAT is the number six player on a per-game basis. KAT is a 1/1/1 player. KAT is averaging 24.8 points per game. KAT is grabbing 9.9 boards. KAT is dishing out 3.8 dimes. KAT is shooting 53% from the field. KAT is shooting 81% from the line. KAT, KAT, KAT…..I just wrote KAT 22 times. I would still need to write KAT now 37 more times in order to reach 60. Now you understand how many freaking points he scored?! Sheeeiiittt.

Here’s what else I saw last night:

Mason Plumlee

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
5 11 8 1 4 1 0 2/3 1/3

Damn GIFs | Tenor

This Plumlee has been sour for much of the season as he’s outside the top 200 on a per-game basis. There haven’t been many points but the boards have been decent at 8.1 per game while the defensive contributions haven’t been great, but haven’t been turrable either – 0.9 steals and 0.7 blocks. The free-throw shooting has been a laughable 36%. L. O. L. Hellen Keller could shoot a better percentage. Much of the sweetness for Plumlee has come from the dimes. He’s dished out 3.1 per game but he’s had games like last night. In his career, he’s dished out at least eight dimes in 10 games with three double-digit games. As for blocks, he’s Mutombo’d at least four 12 times in his career with a high of six.

Terry Rozier

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
30 6 4 2 0 1 4/8 11/17 4/4

Terry hasn’t been so scary for the percentages this season. He’s shooting 43% from the field, which isn’t great in a vacuum, but it’s a huge improvement from the 39% and 38% numbers he posted a few years ago. On the season, he’s converted over 50% of his attempts in 23 games this season. That ain’t bad, yo.

Darius Bazley

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
25 4 4 0 0 2 4/9 10/18 1/2

Josh Giddey went down eight games ago. Over that span, Bazley has shot 48% from the field and averaged 12.4 points, 6.3 boards, 1.8 dimes, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks. On the season, he’s converting 41% of his attempts, so this is likely just a short-term heater. Enjoy it while it lasts.

I will sing his praises so many times that his name will become a cliche.

But he led the Nuggets to a 114-110 victory in Philadelphia.

Bones Hyland

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT

Played 31 minutes. He had been only plaing in the teens but Mike Malone let him cook last night and he delivered in front of a hundreds of firefighters and first responders who saved he and his bro’s life from a house fire a few years ago. The Wilmington Fire Department needed to bring out the hoses and drench the heater from Bones!

Joel Embiid

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
34 9 4 1 2 5 3/3 11/20 9/10

The number four player for fantasy on a per-game basis. Looking for weaknesses…..Scans left. Scans right. Fires a beam off the sun into the neighboring galaxies. Nothing. He’s a 1/1/1 player and is AVERAGING 30 points while shooting 48% from the field and 82% from the line.

James Harden

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
24 9 11 0 1 4 1/4 6/11 11/12

Since joining the 76ers, Harden is a top 10 player. The shot attempts have come down by two per game while the usage rate has dropped two percent, but the efficiency has increased. He’s dishing out 10.5 dimes per game. The numbers don’t get us Harden excited like the Houston days but they still make us walk around with a tent in our pants.

Patrick Beverley

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
20 4 8 1 1 1 3/4 5/8 7/8

The percentages are always a concern for Beverley, as he’s shooting 40% from the field and 72% from the line. This ain’t Beverly Hills. More like Beverley Block. The points won’t always be voluminous but he does provide tres, steals and blocks, and is only 0.1 shy of being a 1/1/1 player. He grabs 4.2 boards and 4.9 dimes per game. Top 100 player on the season.

Keldon Johnson

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
34 8 4 0 0 0 5/9 13/21 3/4

Keldon has been outside the top 100 for much of the season but this Johnson has risen over the last three games, posting top 60 numbers. He’s been playing 36.6 minutes and producing 24.7 points, 3 tres, 8.7 boards and 2 dimes while shooting 50% from the field and 81% from the line. He’s been getting more opportunities as the Spurs have been dealing with injuries. In addition, the efficiency probably shouldn’t be expected to continue as he’s shooting 46% and 74% respectively on the season. The big bugaboo to Johnson’s game is the lack of defensive stats – 0.7 steals and 0.2 blocks.

Jakob Poeltl

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
21 4 1 0 3 1 0 9/12 3/4

Poeltl is a top 75 player on the season on the heels of 9.1 boards, 1.7 blocks, and 62% field goal percentage. The fantasy streets are full of yodeling reverberating throughout.

Dejounte Murray

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
30 4 12 1 1 5 1/5 10/20 9/10

The number eight player for fantasy. Over the last two seasons, he was a top 75-ish player. The departure of DeMar DeRozan was going to leave a huge usage and alpha vacuum but, man, I didn’t think the leap would be like this.

Lonnie Walker IV

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
22 3 2 0 0 1 3/5 8/12 3/3

In 26 minutes off the bench. Walker has athleticism in spades. The shot looks nice and he can get his own bucket. He’s scored at least 20 points 12 times this season with a high of 30. Unfortunately, he’s only shooting 40% from the field and 31% from downtown. For fantasy, it’s even worse because he doesn’t anything else outside of scoring.

Drew Eubanks

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
16 10 2 1 1 3 0/1 7/10 2/2

Made his eighth-straight start with Jusuf Nurkic out. There’s no reason for Nurkic to play another minute this season so Eubanks should play a ton down the stretch. He can provide some points but most of his value will come from boards, blocks, and good percentages. He’s shooting 55% from the field and 75% from the line.

Trendon Watford

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
22 9 2 0 4 1 2/4 9/19 2/2

Started his third game in the last four and played 39 minutes. The rookie has been a top 15 player over the last five games. That’s obviously not going to continue but he should get plenty of run down the stretch and he’s shown some promising glimpses. Watford can score, has range from downtown, will grab some boards, and get his Mutombo on. The percentages are excellent at over 50% from the field and close to 80% from the line.

Josh Hart

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
31 7 4 0 0 1 4/7 11/21 5/7

The centerpiece for the CJ McCollum trade! That just sounds gross but he’s been balling out lately, especially with Anfernee Simons out of commission. The usage rate has spiked up to 26% and he’s attempting around 15 shots per game. Hart provides decent percentages and can score, dish out dimes, get his 211 on, and make it rain from downtown. The biggest value comes from his work on the boards. He’s a top 75-ish player for fantasy.

Brandon Williams

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
20 3 6 1 1 5 2/6 8/17 2/5

Made his fourth straight start. Williams has been solid with the counting stats as he’s filled in for Simons. The efficiency has been dreadful though. Over the last three games, he was shooting sub-40% from the field and 50% from the line. He’s probably more like a 40% shooter and 70% shooter from the line. The usage rate has been high in the 28% range. Once Simons returns, he will go back to a reserve role. There is a chance that Portland could shut down Simons because what’s the point?

Trae Young

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
46 6 12 1 0 3 5/14 15/31 11/11

Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday. Thursday. Friday. Saturday. Sunday. Traeday. Top 15 player on the season. The usage rate is a whopping 34.7% and he’s attempting 20.5 shots per game. The field goal percentage is at 45% while the free-throw shooting is elite at 90%. The tres have been there for Trae this season at 3 per game. 9.4 dimes, 1 steal, and he’s always been a good rebounder with 3.9 boards. In his career, he’s now scored at least 40 points in a game 24 times. He has two games with at least 50.

Kristaps Porzingis

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
25 8 4 0 0 3 1/5 7/13 10/10

Since returning from a 14-game absence, Porzingis has played 22, 26, 26, and 27 minutes. The Wizards are 3.5 games behind the Hornets for the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference. There may be no reason for Porzingis to get ramped up to 30 minutes per game and there’s a chance they shut him down for good. Keep abreast of the landscape.

Ish Smith

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
11 1 7 0 1 0 3/4 4/12 0

In 24 minutes off the bench. Since arriving in Washington 13 games ago, the playing time has been around 20 minutes. He’s averaging 5.3 dimes and has games with 8, 9, and 8. That’s not bad for a streamer if you need dimes.

Draymond Green

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
6 7 6 1 0 3 1/3 2/4 1/2

Played 20 minutes in his return from a 30-game absence. Oh man, the Warriors are starting to get healthy. Klay Thompson is playing over 32 minutes per game. There are 13 games left in the regular season to get Green back up to speed. The Warriors are sporting the third-best defensive rating and that’s only going to get better with Dray back in the mix.

The Cavaliers defeated the Clippers, 120-111 in overtime.

Ivica Zubac

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
24 14 4 0 2 3 0 10/15 4/4

Played 36 minutes. For much of the season, Zubac was held to around 25 minutes per game. Over the last three games, he’s received 36, 30, and 36 minutes. He’s scored over 20 points in two of those contests and grabbed 14, 15, and 14 boards with 2, 1, and 2 blocks. He’s been a top 40 player. Play the man!!!

Terance Mann

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
18 10 4 1 2 0 2/7 7/21 2/4

Played a whopping 45 minutes. Mann has had bouts of efficiency issues but on the season, he’s converting 47% of his field goal attempts. He boards well for a guard with 5.5 per game. Recently, that number has spiked to around 7 per game. He doesn’t normally contribute the D though. At least the turnovers are super low at around 1 per game.

Amir Coffey

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
19 3 2 0 1 0 4/11 7/20 1/2

Played 40 minutes. Coffey has started the last four games due to injuries for the Clippers. Last night was the first time scoring in double figures. The field goal percentage has been 35%, 27%, 50%, and 25%. Yuck. This Coffey needs plenty of cream and sugar to make it palatable. Unfortunately, it won’t arrive in time before the team gets healthy.

Evan Mobley

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
30 6 1 2 2 1 1/3 13/22 3/6

A career-high for the roookie. Mobley is going to be so freaking good. The only bugaboo to his game is the poor free-throw shooting (67%). He’s going to be a exquisitie contributer in the defensive cats and he’s going to score and grab rebounds with an itty bitty love from downtown.

Darius Garland

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
24 2 13 1 0 3 4/9 8/21 4/4

21.2 points and 8.4 dimes is magnifique. 2.6 tres, 1.2 steals, 47% FG, and 91% from the line is chef’s kiss. The bugaboos are the lack of blocks and high turnovers. He’s at 4 per game on the season and has stretches with over 5. Garland is a top 40 player on the season.

Isaac Okoro

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
20 5 5 1 1 1 1/1 4/6 11/13

Known more for his defense, Okoro has been shooting well from the field lately – 50% on 5.8 attempts over the last 12 games. The free-throw shooting has been over 80% as well. For fantasy, he doesn’t do much outside of steals, and even then, it’s still under 1 per game. If you need someone who breaths, drips a few drops of sweat on the floor, and provides a little something something across the board, then Okoro could work. There’s break in case of emergency and pressing the submit button on Okoro.

Caris LeVert

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
11 7 3 0 0 0 1/2 5/10 0

Zach LaVine

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
27 3 6 0 1 2 2/7 8/18 9/9

Returned to action after missing Saturday’s game and played 36 minutes. The usage rate was 28.4%. LaVine is a top 40 player for fantasy. The thing holding him back from entering the elite tier is the lack of defensive stats.

Nikola Vucevic

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT

Vucevic is fifth in the NBA with 40 dub-dubs. He’s 17 behind Nikola Jokic. Vucevic will never sit on the throne of the Nikola Pantheon.

De’Aaron Fox

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
34 6 6 1 0 4 3/8 13/25 5/6

Played 42 minutes as he led the Kings to a 112-103 victory over the Bulls. Over the last seven games, Fox has been a top 20 player. In the most recent three games, he’s been a top 10 player! The usage rate has been 35% and he’s shooting 50% from the field and 93% from the line while dishing out 9 dimes and draining 4 tres! This heater is not sustainable but this Fox is a wily one. On the season, Fox is shooting 47% from the field and 74% from the line. He’s dishing out 5.6 dimes and draining 1.2 tres per game. Maybe something’s clicked and we are about to witness a leap. How much credit does Domantas Sabonis get in all of this?

Donte DiVincenzo

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT

Made his first start since May and played 35 minutes. Justin Holiday didn’t suit up for this one so this is not the New World Order. When Holiday returns from his vacation, DiVincenzo will likely go back to playing 20 minutes per game. He played 17 and 12 minutes in the prior two games.

29 4 7 5 0 3 2/6 10/21 7/8

Jrue isn’t flashy but just gets things done in a methodical way. He scores but doesn’t press the pedal to the metal. If you need him to, though, he can. He dishes out dimes, grab boards, drains tres. He’s a master thief but doesn’t pounce all the time, instead bides his time and waits for the opportune moments. He’s shooting 50% from the field which is impressive from a guard and  on 14.3 attempts per game. The turnovers are sub-3 which is great for a guard with a usage rate of around 24%. The bugaboo is  the 77% free-throw shooting, and that isn’t even that bad. Top 35 player on the season and could end up in the top 25.

Mike Conley

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
29 2 7 2 0 1 6/9 10/13 3/4

In the prior four games, Conley had scored 8, 5, 3, and 2 points. He was still dishing out some dimes but those numbers are gross. Well, he bounced back and it wasn’t a dead cat bounce. The last time he scored at least 20 points was back at the end of January. He’s scored at least 20 points only nine times this season. Conley is a top 65 player.

James is doing everything in his power to carry this Lakers team on his back but it is not a task that seems viable in its current state. The Lakers have lost 15 of the last 20 games. James is a top 5 player on a per-game basis. He’s a 1/1/1 player this season, the first time since 2009. He’s shooting 76% from the line, the first time over 75% since 2013. Is this……?
