A pair of Commanders and Lamar Jackson’s new go-to-guy are among the top fantasy football pickups to make ahead of Week 2.
The fantasy football season is underway and it’s been a wild Week 1 filled with some unusual weather and scoring coming from unorthodox places. The waiver wire figures to be hopping this week as fantasy owners try to manage their rosters to add the top players in order to secure a victory in Week 2.
Throughout the season, we’ll use this space to spotlight the five top pickups for the upcoming week, with every player here being rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues. We’ll get things started in Washington with Carson Wentz.
5. Top Fantasy Football Pickups for Week 2 – Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz
The third team in three years may be a charm for Wentz, who looked right at home in his debut with the newly-minted Commanders. Wentz lit up the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, completing 27-of-41 passes for 313 yards with four touchdowns against just two interceptions.
The Commanders do have some solid weapons for Wentz to work with, including top wide receiver Terry McLaurin and talented rookie Jahan Dotson. Wentz was able to spread the ball efficiently throughout the day, allowing him to pile up some strong passing stats against a mediocre Jacksonville defense.
Rostered in just 12 percent of Yahoo leagues, Wentz has an intriguing matchup on tap in Week 2 against a Detroit Lions defense that just surrendered 38 points to the Philadelphia Eagles. Teams in need of a Week 2 streamer could do worse than scooping up Wentz.
