Fantasy football drafts are raging on while preseason football winds down. The biggest question most years for fantasy players is how to decide draft order. Here are unique ways to decide fantasy football draft order.
In-Person
Athletic Decathlon- Doing a regular decathlon may be harder to do, so just pick 10 sports and play them out. For leagues that can get together for a full day of activities, this presents a cool way to do some things that are enjoyable and because there are 10 events, it balances out most competitve advantages.
Laser Tag- Try to find a non-busy time to go to laser tag and then go at it! Keep a phone or notebook handy to jot down the final scores. The person with the most points gets to draft first.
Home Run Derby- Find an open baseball field nearby with a fence (preferably a shorter one) to have a home run derby. The most fun will come when fantasy managers try to rob home runs in order to help their own standing.
Punt, Pass, Kick- One of the oldest competitions in football is the punt, pass and kick. Find a football field to help mark off yardage. Add all the scores up at the end to determine the draft order.
Knockout- Playing a one on one tournament in basketball could be fun, but that may leave a competitive advantage to some players. A game of knockout, full of attempts to knock the opponent’s basketball away, is exactly the type of madness that is perfect for determining draft order.
Easter Egg Hunt- This one is perfect for any league that has members with kids already. Every team manager has an easter egg where they write their name on a piece of paper and put it in the egg. After that, each member of the league hides their egg in the backyard (making rules on this will be crucial). The first egg to be found is the person that picks last.
Dog Picks Draft Order- This can be done with treats or toys depending on the dog. Every league member chooses a toy/treat to present the dog. All members are equidistant to the dog. The first toy/treat picked drafts first.
Drinking Games- No matter what drinking game is chosen, it is a fun way to choose draft order.
Shot Roullete- All shot glasses are filled with water, but one, which is filled with liquor. The person who gets the real shot is out of the competition, while the other members go on.
Putt-Putt- This could also be a real golf outing (probably with handicap scoring), but putt-putt is a nice family-friendly game that most can be competitive at.
Not in Person
Wonderlic Test- Put the minds of the league to the test by having each person complete the Wonderlic test. Not only will the league have something to kid each other about, but it also will help managers see how they stack up against the greats in the NFL based on aptitude.
Video Game Tournament- Whether it is Madden, NCAA College Football, NBA 2k, Mario Party or any other video game, have players compete for their draft order.
Video Game Simulation- Have all players pick a player/team in a video game and simulate a tournament style game (this is especially popular for WWE).
100-Yard Dash Simulation- Instead of doing a random number generator, plug team names into a 100-yard dash that everyone can watch. The winner gets the first pick.
Spotify Playlist- Every person picks a song to add to a playlist on spotify. After all songs are entered, the playlist is shuffled. The song played first wins the manager first pick.
NFL Trivia- Have a non-league member quiz everyone on the NFL to see who gets the first pick.
Chugging Contest- If not everyone can get together, take videos chugging the beverage of choice.
