The 6th week of the 2022 LEC Summer Split has concluded, and while the upper part of the standings has a close fight between 6 teams trying to secure their playoffs for the summer split, the bottom part is a completely different story. After losing 12 out of 13 games, one team has to say goodbye to their chances of reaching the playoffs as they have been unable to show any signs of life throughout 6 weeks.
After their devastating loss against Fnatic, Team BDS has been eliminated from contention for the upcoming 2022 LEC Summer Playoffs. Just like in most of their games, the BDS players couldn’t find a way to get any type of advantage as their individual performances have been incredibly disappointing throughout the regular season. While they no longer have any chances of sneaking into playoffs, they can still try to pick up as many wins as possible just to get out of 10th place.
Team BDS is the newest team in the LEC, and this was their first year in the competition after purchasing their spot from Schalke 04 for $31.54 million. The organization, founded in Switzerland in 2018, participates in various European gaming leagues, including Rainbow Six: Siege and League of Legends.
This team is known for bringing rookies into the stage and trying to develop them into strong competitors for the LEC. Many of their current players started their careers in the ERL, others hoping to continue their LEC careers with the team. None of their contracts are expected to expire until 2023, so it is unclear how BDS will prepare for the 2023 Spring Split.
Ilias “NUCLEARINT” Bizriken had some outstanding performances throughout the split, though it’s very clear that he is still very far from competing against the likes of Humanoid, Larssen, Nisqy, and Caps. Adam “Adam” Maanane is one of the most experienced players in the BDS lineup, having one worlds appearance in 2021 with Fnatic, though they didn’t have a great run finishing 1-5 in the group stage.
But not everything is terrible because the only win they managed to pick up was against one of the strongest teams in the league. During the 2nd week of the summer regular season, BDS successfully defeated the winners of the 2022 LEC Spring Playoffs, G2 Esports. Throughout the entirety of this game, BDS found ways to catch an overconfident G2 off-guard, piling on objectives to prevent G2 from stabilizing their gameplay. Yesterday, G2 successfully got revenge on BDS to continue their climb in the standings.
It’s still uncertain what Team BDS is planning for the next year, but it’s definitely safe to say that they’ll be looking to make huge changes within their roster, that’s if they want to show a better face in the 2023 season.
