F1 Esports Series Women’s Wildcard Returns for 2022

The F1 Esports Series Women’s Wildcard is back for 2022, where some of the fastest sim racing women and girls will battle it out for a shot at the F1 Esports Series Pro Exhibition.

Open from Tuesday, May 31, and running for one week, the event will ask participants to set a scorching lap time around Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, home of the recent Spanish Grand Prix. From our entrants, the five racers with the best times will be invited to Silverstone for a special one-off race. The winner of this race will then progress to the F1 Esports Series Pro Exhibition, where they can attain Pro Rank, and be up for selection by one of the 10 official F1 Esports Teams.

HOW DO I ENTER?

Open only to female competitors, racers will aim to with set the best lap time possible on F1 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4/5, and the Xbox family of consoles. The settings that must be used are:

  • Car type: F1 2021 (Any team)
  • Mode: Time Trial
  • Assists: None
  • Weather: Dry
  • Time of Day: Official
  • Track: Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain

Once you’re up and running, you’ll need to record your effort in full, as well as screenshot the final lap time once you’ve finished the session. Send this along with your other details along to support@f1esports.com, and make sure you’re registered to take part by linking your gaming account.

WHY WE’RE DOING THIS

We’ve seen some incredible racers in our midst since we first started racing virtually in 2017. We’ve also been lucky enough to showcase some amazing female talent in F1 Esports, both in the studio and in our Virtual Grands Prix. However, we’re still awaiting the first female competitor the Pro Championship itself.

With a devoted, talented female sim racing community and loads of fantastic streamers, we know the fan base is there. In the lead up to the event, McLaren hosted a group of influencers and media personalities at their incredible McLaren Technology Centre, and while there was no official competition on the line there, the competitive spirit bled through – the perfect prologue to this year’s Wildcard.

So while we’re still seeing a disproportionately low number of women and girls in the F1 Esports Series for now, it is our hope that with the Women’s Wildcard, we can encourage more women to become involved from the ground up, now and in years to come. Good luck out there – maybe we’ll be seeing you at Silverstone soon!
