The Utah Jazz continue their apparent descent into rebuild mode by trading one of their best players ahead of the 2022-2023 season. The Cavaliers and Jazz have agreed to a trade including Donovan Mitchell. Cleveland is sending Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, three first round picks and two pick swaps to Utah.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news on Thursday.
Mitchell was the 13th overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft out of the University of Louisville. He was a star out of the gate, and many believe he should have won the Rookie of the Year award over Ben Simmons, as Simmons was only “technically” a rookie. He scored 20.5 points on 43.7 percent shooting in the 2017-2018 season.
Last season, with Utah, he scored 25.9 points per game, which was the second-best average of his career so far. Mitchell also set career marks in assists and steals last season, even though he played only 67 games due to injury.
