After his stunning nine-dart finish against Jose de Sousa, Jonny Clayton (9/2 – Premier League Outright) admits he’s brimming with confidence as he prepares to take on Rob Cross next in the Premier League Darts on Thursday.
In his debut Premier League campaign, Clayton threw a nine-darter on Wednesday night on his way to a 7-3 win over De Sousa to make it two victories on the spin in Milton Keynes following on from his opening-night 6-6 draw against Peter Wright.
It was only the 11th nine-darter in Premier League history and the Welshman, who ended the clash with a 105.26 average, admits he’s on a roll with Cross up next (Clayton 8/13, Cross 10/3, Draw 18/5 – Match Odds).
“I’m a happy man, it’s brilliant,” he told Sky Sports. “It was a great game, Jose is a brilliant player. We’ve played each other a few times on tour and I knew I’d have to play my best to win and thankfully that’s what I did.
“It’s all going well for me at the moment. The darts are flowing nicely, my confidence is high and I’m enjoying it.”
Clayton’s heroics stole the headlines on night three of the tournament but he knows he must maintain his focus as he goes up against Cross on Thursday before taking on Gary Anderson on Friday.
There are still two weeks to go until ‘Judgement Night” and Clayton is well aware there is a long way to go yet.
He added: “I won’t get ahead of myself though, my aim is still just to make sure I’m still in the competition after Judgement Night.”
In Wednesday’s other games, Michael van Gerwen (6/4 – Premier League Outright) built on his win over Peter Wright on Tuesday with an ominous 7-3 success over Cross, while there was a 7-0 rout for Dimitri Van den Bergh over Glen Durrant.
Wright beat Anderson 7-4 and Nathan Aspinall saw off James Wade by the same scoreline.
As well as Clayton’s match-up with Cross later on Thursday, Van den Bergh takes on Wright, De Sousa meets Aspinall, Wade must try and stop in-form Van Gerwen and Anderson goes up against Durrant.
