59th Annual PVA/Florida Gulf Coast PVA Chapter, State Championship Report
Wayne Webber, TD
Pin Chaser Lanes -Tampa, Florida
April 21-23, 202
This year we bowled midweek hoping to attract additional bowlers. Unfortunately, with many people down with injuries and the Pandemic the field was only set at 17 bowlers. We had to adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines for this event, and didn’t have any problems doing so.
Wednesday we hosted 8 doubles teams. The team of Marlin Benn and Henry Walters bested the team of Jimmy May and Rich Mahaney in the championship match.
In the qualifying, no one really took control and it seemed that everyone experienced their share of splits on the lanes in both divisions. However, things did heat up in the A division roll offs as David Nelson won match one over Wayne Webber (178+25) 203 to (127+59) 186. Match two went to Brooks Martin (172+38) 210 to (135+25) 160 as David Nelson bowed out. Match three was Jason Nelson winning (172+40) 212 over Brooks Martin (154+38) 192 to face Marlon Benn in the championship match. Martin kept his game going to win his first championship (182+63) 245 against Jason Nelson (143+40) 183.
B division roll offs was very competitive also. Match one pitted Dave McGinnes going up against Debbra Moulies with Moulies besting the match (164+100) 264 to (121+100) 221. Match 2 Debbra Moulies challenged Dan Formento as he won (116+96) 215 to Debbra’s (088+100) 188. Dan challenged Jimmy May but Jimmy lost (165+96) 261 to (100+88) 188. Rick Mahaney proved to be too much for Dan Formento in the championship match winning (155+72) 227 TO (126+96) 222. Congrats to all who participated.
Individual honors went to Marlon Benn for HHS in A division with a 687 series. Brooks Martin took HHG with his 273. In the B division Rick Mahaney won HHS with a fine 714 series and Carl LaGrotteria got HHG of 244. Below is a summary of all the scores.
I would like to thank to National PVA, Storm Bowling, IABowl, USBC, Sportaid, BPAA, Pin Chaser Veterans Lanes and staff, FGCPVA, and AWBA for their continued support of this great tournament. Also I would like to thank the bowlers who attended and the friendships and competition that this event created. Such a great time was had by all.
