Badminton England Disciplinary Hearing Panel members

Badminton England is the National Governing Body for badminton in England; responsible for developing and promoting the sport and committed to the wellbeing and welfare of all our participants.

We are looking to recruit new members for our Disciplinary Hearing Panel meetings.  Panel members ensure that all disciplinary matters arising in the sport of Badminton are dealt with in accordance with the Badminton England Disciplinary Regulations and to ensure that, where issues arise, they are dealt with fairly and consistently.

We are seeking individuals with knowledge of disciplinary proceedings and of sitting on disciplinary or similar panels, preferably within the sporting landscape and with experience of making reasoned and justifiable decisions based on rigorous assessment and analysis of evidence. As well as seeking panel members, Badminton England is keen to hear from people who have the skills and expertise, particularly from a legal background, to chair hearing panels.

We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds and particularly:

  • Badminton England members with a good knowledge and understanding of the badminton landscape.
  • Independent people (not a member of Badminton England) with knowledge and experience of disciplinary proceedings and hearing panels
  • Those with experience of/work in dealing with safeguarding cases
  • Individuals with experience of chairing hearing panels/disciplinary panels, especially with a legal background.

The expectation is that each panel member will be asked to sit on a panel on one to two occasions per year but this will vary depending on availability of other panel members and upon the number of cases to be heard. Cases are generally heard by three panel members.

Cases may be general disciplinary issues or those relating to safeguarding concerns.

Hearing panels may take place in person in Milton Keynes, London or virtually via Teams or Zoom.

The role is a voluntary one although travel and other reasonable expenses will be paid according to the volunteer reimbursement policy of Badminton England.

Training: Training will be provided on an ongoing basis to those whom we recruit to the pool of disciplinary panel members.

To apply: Please send a covering letter and CV to complete
