This month has been another busy one on the domestic circuit, with various tournaments at age-group and senior level taking place and dates confirmed for several more competitions towards the end of the year.
Here’s our round-up on recent events…
U17 Gold Yorkshire (25-26th June)
Exciting prospect Paige Woods powered her way to first place in the girl’s singles at the 2022 U17 Gold Huddersfield, beating Ashleigh Mok in the final.
The Alpha Badminton Club star shone in a stunning 21-11 26-24 win to wrap up the tournament.
Woods came through a rollercoaster ride in the semi-finals, coming from behind to beat Eeva Lunn 13-21 21-19 21-12.
Aaren Sum stormed to a stunning straight-games win over Harper Leigh in the boys’ singles.
Sum dispatched Leigh 21-13 21-14 to claim first place in a convincing fashion after beating Leon Crayford in the semi-finals.
Sum’s semi-final also went to a decider, with Crayford winning the first before falling to a 15-21 21-16 21-13 defeat.
In the boy’s doubles, Jia Bin Lee and Jason Ou won back-to-back games in the final to beat Mebel Mano Kurian and Jewel Mano Varughese.
Bin Lee and Ou won the first game 21-15 before securing a 21-18 victory in the second.
It wrapped up a stunning display from the duo, who also beat Charlie Windebank and Aarav Sujith 21-17 21-13 in the semi-finals.
The girls’ doubles saw Lila Dundas and Yulia Tang come out on top against the pair of Lucy Dodd and Matilda Franklin.
Dundas and Tang took the prize in a 21-15 22-20 win after beating Sia Pandit and Mili Patel 21-15 21-10 in the semi-finals.
And in the mixed doubles, Sumedh Reddy Chittamuru and girl’s doubles winner Tang beat boy’s doubles winner Ou and the other girl’s doubles winner Dundas.
Reddy Chittamuru and Tang won 21-14 21-12 to end a fantastic competition for the duo.
U13 Gold Gloucestershire (2nd July)
Adam Alam was the victor against George Yuxiao Wang in a closely-fought boys’ singles final at the U13 Gold Gloucestershire at the start of July.
Alam was pushed all the way in the first game, eventually beating his opponent 26-24 before following it up with a more convincing 21-16 in the second.
In the girl’s singles, Katie Carr and Vedanshi Jain put on a fascinating final, with the former coming out on top.
Carr was lethal, winning the first game 21-11 before a 21-16 victory in the second.
In the final of the girls’ doubles, Yashica Earla and Shraddha Gopalakrishnan beat Martha Ng and Tushara Senthilrajaram.
Earla and Gopalakrishnan were pushed all the way, though, winning the first game 21-17 before Ng and Senthilrajaram took the second 21-5.
But Earla and Gopalakrishnan held their nerve to take the decisive game 21-14.
Hubert Ceglinski and Kavin Karunakaran were the victors in the boy’s doubles, beating rivals Conor Blakeman and Corey Chambers in the final.
Ceglinski and Karunakaran wrapped up the win in style, backing up a first game 21-10 win with a 21-8 victory in the second.
And in the mixed doubles, Karunakaran and Gopalakrishnan were on the winning side again, beating Tejas Singh and Tushara Senthilrajaram
Karunakaran and Gopalakrishnan followed up their respective wins in the boys and girls doubles with an impressive 21-15 22-20 win over their rivals.
4 Nations tournament
English players swept the board with an unbeaten weekend at the 4 Nations Graded International Tournament in Cardiff last weekend.

English National Series dates have now been confirmed as we head towards the end of the season:
- 19-20th Nov – U13 Nationals (NBC)
- 26-27th Nov – U19 Nationals (NBC)
- 3-4th Dec – U17 Nationals (NBC) / Masters Nationals (Hertfordshire Sports Village, 2nd – 4thDec)
- 10-11th Dec – Senior Nationals (NBC) / U15 Nationals (Warwick University Sports Hall)
Player grades
Player grades are updated every four months and the latest gradings were published on 24th June.
These are calculated based on the head-to-head matches between players in that period, more information is available on the website here.
To support players returning to play after Covid, we have an open window for players to appeal their grading throughout the current season so that we can reflect changes in players level accordingly.
