Northeast Conference Announces Outdoor Track and Field Honors

The Northeast Conference announced men’s and women’s all-conference honors for the outdoor track and field season on Friday. Central Connecticut earned first team honors in four events total, and a total of five second team honors and six all-rookie selections.


WOMEN’S OUTDOOR FIRST TEAM

Senior Angie Rafter earned first team recognition in three events in the 1500m, 5000m and 10000m races. She was also named Most Valuable Performer and Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance).


MEN’S OUTDOOR FIRST TEAM

Sophomore Ali Diaby earned First Team honors in the 400m after running 47.73.

Sophomore Eddie Nicholas was named the Most Valuable Performer (MVP) and Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance), while earning First Team honors in the 10,000m and 3,000m Steeplechase.

Central earned First Team honors for its win in the 4x100m Relay with a time of 41.26. 


WOMEN’S OUTDOOR SECOND TEAM

Junior Ashley Dana took a spot on the Second Team in the 1500m, while sophomore Brooke Morabito was recognized in the 10,000m.

Freshman Alissa Hurd leapt 1.64 meters in the high jump for a second team nod.


MEN’S OUTDOOR SECOND TEAM

Diaby took silver in the 200m to earn second team recognition, while sophomore Jake Ireland ran 3:54.39 to win silver in the 1500m and earn second team honors.

Junior Andrew McCarthy placed second with a throw of 47.87 meters in the discus. 

WOMEN’S OUTDOOR ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

Four Blue Devils earned All-Rookie Team honors for their performances at the championships. Hurd (high jump) and freshmen Rebecca Carusone (10,000m), Megan Desmarais (3000m Steeple) and Simone Smith (Long Jump) helped CCSU to a third-place finish in the team standings.

MEN’S OUTDOOR ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

Freshman Israel Henriques-Sotho (Long Jump) and Chizi Umanakwe (Javelin) represented the men’s squad on the All-Rookie Team.
