The Athletics Victoria committee is delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Duck to the role of Chief Executive Officer.
Duck’s leadership experience includes 11 years in the sports industry, holding executive roles, including CEO of Diving Victoria, before moving to the Western Region Football League in the same remit, a position he has held for over five years.
Athletics Victoria President Rob Wendel said Duck had been selected from a strong selection of applicants with his experience in growing membership, capitalisation of all things digital, and financial strength underpinned by commercial growth, impressing the selection panel.
“We are thrilled with Matt’s appointment. Matt has a wide array of skills from his extensive experience in the sporting sector; however, it was his track record, strategic vision and industry knowledge that stood out for us. We are eager to work with him and the Athletics Victoria team in this exciting era for the sport.” Wendel added.
Duck said he was excited to get started.
“The athletics community is one I grew up in and maintain a strong connection to. I look forward to taking everything I have learnt over the past 10 years leading other sporting bodies, and applying this experience to help further drive Athletics in Victoria. I especially look forward to working with the Athletics Victoria team and our hard-working volunteer network at what is an exciting time for the sport.”
The committee of Athletics Victoria would like to thank Ross Cunningham, who stepped in as Interim CEO in February at an essential time for the sport. “Ross has shown strong leadership and direction as Interim CEO. His work has been pivotal in ensuring Athletics Victoria is in a strong position for growth.” Wendel said.
Athletics Victoria would like to thank Josie Lahey from the international search and consulting firm, SRI, with whom the AV committee partnered in the recruitment process.
Duck will commence his position at Athletics Victoria on 17 October.
