BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) — Dario Benedetto struck a second-half winner as Boca Juniors secured a 1-0 home win over rivals River Plate in Argentina’s Primera Division on Sunday.
The former Marseille striker broke the deadlock in the 65th minute with a lunging header following a Juan Ramirez corner.
The result at La Bombonera leaves Boca Juniors fourth in the 28-team standings with 32 points from 18 games, two points behind leaders Atletico Tucuman.
River, who had previously not lost in the league since a 2-1 defeat to Sarmiento on July 31, are sixth in the 28-team standings with 29 points.
Meanwhile, Atletico Tucuman missed a chance to extend their lead at the top of the standings with a 1-1 draw at San Lorenzo.
In Sunday’s only other Primera Division matches, Talleres Cordoba won 1-0 at home to Defensa y Justicia and Arsenal Sarandi were held to a 2-2 home draw by Velez Sarsfield.
