Celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – Netball Scoop

Kia ora koutou katoa! (Hello/Greetings, when talking to 3 + people)

We are joining with the rest of Aotearoa and celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, also known as Māori Language Week.

You may have noticed in the last 12 months or so Netball Scoop have been incorporating some Te Reo Māori when it comes to our Aotearoa (New Zealand) content – whether it be the simple use of Aotearoa, to using Māori place names, such as Tāmaki-Makaurau (Auckland).

We are by no means experts when it comes to the use of Te Reo Māori, but like most people in Aotearoa, we are trying to do our part to continue to showcase the language and use it in our stories.

Keep an eye on our social media and here where we will be sharing some phrases and words that you can incorporate into your vocabulary, especially for the next time you journey to Aotearoa.

Netball positions

Some may think most importantly we start with the Te Reo Māori translations for the positions on a netball (poitarawhiti) court.

A great place to start for your next training or social game is to use some of these during your game or for those on the sideline.
