Tottenham forward Richarlison was seen in tears with loved ones after scoring a brace on his Champions League debut.
The Brazilian netted twice late on against Marseille to secure three points in Spurs’ European opener with a 2-0 win, and headed over to his family to celebrate.
After big smiles and big hugs, the emotion suddenly hit Richarlison in an instant as he covered his eyes and bowed over the stands for comfort.
The £60million record signing from Everton was starting his second match for Spurs after being an impact substitute under Antonio Conte, who may now have a headache on his hands.
The Italian appeared to be heading for a 0-0 draw in his first game back in Europe’s top tier competition, but Richarlison put paid to that with two expertly taken headers for his first Tottenham goals.
The first saw him left in acres of space to nod in an Ivan Perisic cross with 14 minutes to play, and it was game over five minutes later when he brilliantly out-jumped his man to steer in again.
Perisic, a veteran of the competition and winner in 2020 later consoled his teammate.
In what’s already been a long and storied career for 25-year-old Richarlison, he’s clearly now reached new heights.
Along with gaining a spot in Europe’s top tier since moving to Spurs, he’s also recently become a Brazil regular, winning the Olympics in 2021.
The forward also competed in the Copa America the same summer, which saw them lose to Argentina in the final.
And there could well be more emotion this winter when the World Cup kicks off.
