GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst has been getting it in the neck all week after Rangers were on the wrong end of a 4-0 Old Firm humbling.
But one of Van Bronckhorst’s former Rangers team-mates has leapt to his defence – and insisted he deserves a STATUE for what he has achieved since taking the Ibrox job.

That man is Ronald de Boer – with the former Rangers favourite saying he couldn’t fail to be impressed by the way Van Bronckhorst led the Ibrox men to their first European final for 14 years within months of taking over then took them back to the Champions League.
He told Sky Sports: “He’s done an amazing job. I think he almost deserves a statue because of what he’s done.
“He’s put Rangers back on the European stage, basically.
“After many years they’re back where they belong with what Gio has done.
“They could’ve won the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt.
“He’s just starting but I think he’s changed Rangers quite a bit.
“Of course, all credit to Steven Gerrard too. He started all of this and I think Gio’s finished it.
“Now, it’s up to him to continue. I have all the trust in him to do so.”

Rangers currently sit five points back on Celtic in the Premiership table – and De Boer reckons the weekend humbling will come as a wake-up call for the Ibrox men.
With an in-form Ajax boasting a 100% record in the Dutch league next up, he knows that Rangers must be at their best to get anything in Amsterdam tonight.
They can expect to be pressed high from the outset by Alfred Schreuder’s men – just as they were against Celtic – and the onus is on them to deal with it better.
He added: “This was a wake-up call for them.
“If you don’t have things right you can be beaten easily.
“Of course Celtic are their biggest rivals. They were up for it.
“You have to be sharp. They did it against PSV Eindhoven at the highest level.
“We’ll have to wait and see because Ajax will pressurise Rangers from the start. We need to see how they will cope with that.”
