Sky pundit backs £15m Leeds and Everton target to secure late move

Lee Hendrie has backed Leeds United and Everton transfer target, Ben Brereton Diaz, to make a possible late move on transfer deadline day, as he told Sky Sports News.

The former Aston Villa midfielder added ‘you would take him’, as he suggested that the striker could have a ‘Jarrod Bowen-like’ impact in the Premier League because he has that ‘hunger’ in his game.

Everton are seemingly pushing to sign the £15 million star, whilst Leeds are also in the hunt for the Chile international’s talents – he has one-year left on his current deal at Blackburn Rovers.

Could Leeds make a late, late move for a player? The reason being is that they were due to sign Bamba Dieng from Marseille, but instead, at the very last turn, he decided to join Nice.

That clearly wouldn’t have sat well with those in Yorkshire and it does leave Jesse Marsch’s side short heading in the striker department headed towards the 11 pm cut-off point.

Nonetheless, one player that could more than fill that void is a certain thriving striker at Ewood Park, as Hendrie spoke about his qualities.

“Yes, you would take him,” said Hendrie. “You scout through the Championship and you look at players who have been standouts last season.

“The goals he turned around. The creativity. The threat and the versatility that he brings to Blackburn. There is no wonder he is being linked with the move away.

“I think he can give an awful lot to a new side. He’s a young lad and an international. There is a lot to like for him to move up and take that step up.

“I always look at the Championship and think who can be capable of taking that step up. You look at Jarrod Bowen doing the same and really bursting into the Premier League and making a name for himself. Diaz has a hunger about him.”

HEALTHY WINDOWS FOR LEEDS AND EVERTON

If this is it for Leeds and Everton, then it will probably go down as a healthy 2022 summer transfer window, in terms of incoming transfers.

Yes, losing their key players – Raphinha, Kalvin Phillips and Richarlison – hasn’t helped matters, but it has been dealt with pretty well.

Some Leeds fans might be left annoyed by this collapsed Dieng deal because, if no-one else comes in, then it leaves them short once more.

When Marcelo Bielsa was in charge, there was a lot of talk about how he possibly didn’t want ‘X’ ‘Y’ or ‘Z’ players because deals weren’t being done.

Well, this one is going to cause a bit of stir amongst the Elland Road faithful, that’s for sure, because those same issues are surfacing without Bielsa now in the dugout.
