Women’s Lacrosse Stymied at Bryant on Wednesday

The Central Connecticut State women’s lacrosse team fell at first-place Bryant, 21-7, on Wednesday in Smithfield, RI. Graduate student Rosie Sconzo led the Blue Devils with three goals in the game.

The Blue Devils close out the regular season on Saturday against Mount St. Mary’s at home.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Bryant opened the game by scoring three unanswered goals. Sophomore Lauren Valluzzi would get CCSU on the board with a free position goal at the 10:11 mark in the first quarter. Junior Katelyn Parker would score CCSU’s second of the game at the 8:04 mark to make it 4-2 before Bryant ran off three straight goals.
  • Graduate student Rosie Sconzo would score her first of the game at the 5:02 mark. After two Bulldog scores, Sconzo scored a free position goal to close out the first quarter and make it 9-4.
  • Sconzo would complete her hat trick at the 8:10 mark of the second quarter, but the Bulldogs would outscore CCSU, 4-1, in the period and took a 13-5 lead into halftime.
  • The Bulldogs opened the second half with three straight goals before junior Madison Palumbo scored an unassisted tally.
  • CCSU got a goal from junior Olivia Gianakos to open the fourth quarter, but Bryant scored the final four goals of the contest.

NOTES

  • Sconzo scored a season-high three goals. She added a draw control.
  • Junior Gaby Melendez and sophomore Jill Levis each had two ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • Sophomore Kya Risher notched 13 saves. She also had two groundballs.
