Edson Barboza will be looking to get back into the win column when he faces Ilia Toupria in October.
According to Eurosport Spain, and since confirmed by MyMMANews, Barboza will return to the Octagon on October 29 against Toupria. The event will likely take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada while the main event of the card has not been announced as of yet.
Edson Barboza (22-11) is ranked 13th at featherweight and on a two-fight losing skid. The 36-year-old suffered a decision loss to Bryce Mitchell last time out after suffering a TKO loss to Giga Chikadze in the main event of a Fight Night card. Barboza dropped down to featherweight in May of 2020 and suffered a split decision loss to Dan Ige after scoring a decision win over Makwan Amirkhani and knocked out Shane Burgos.
Before the move down to featherweight, Barboza lost by KO to Justin Gaethje before dropping a split decision to Paul Felder. In his career, Barboza holds notable wins over Dan Hooker, Beneil Dariush, Anthony Pettis, Paul Felder, Bobby Green, Ross Pearson, and Gilbert Melendez among others.
Ilia Toupria (12-0) moved up to lightweight last time out and scored a second-round KO win over Jai Herbert after being dropped in the first round by a head kick. Before the move up to lightweight, the 25-year-old had back-to-back KO wins over Ryan Hall and Damon Jackson while in his debut he beat Youssef Zalal by decision on short notice.
Before the move to the UFC, Toupria had fought in Cage Warriors and Brace CF and has notable wins over Stephen Goncalves, Luis Gomez, and Brian Bouland. He’s currently ranked 15th at featherweight and has mentioned a fight against Barboza in the past.
Currently, Edson Barboza vs. Ilia Toupria is the only fight set for the October 29 Fight Night card.
