Riyad Mahrez has signed a new two-year contract extension to stay at Manchester City until June 2025.
Born in Sarcelles, France, Mahrez began his career at Quimper before spending 2010-14 at Le Havre prior to a move to Leicester City, where he scored 48 goals in 179 appearances and helped the Foxes to 2013-14 Championship and 2015-16 Premier League titles.
Mahrez then joined Man City in July 2018 on a five-year contract which was set to expire next summer, although that contract has since been extended by two further seasons until June 2025.
Throughout his time at City, Mahrez has produced 63 goals and 43 assists across all competitions in 189 appearances, during which he helped the team to eight titles, including;
- 3 x Premier League
- 3 x EFL Cup
- 1 x FA Cup
- 1 x Community Shield
Feeling “very happy” with his new contract as he explained his reasons for signing a two-year contract extension, Mahrez said: “I have enjoyed every single minute of my time here. It’s a pleasure to be part of such an incredible Club.
“To have helped us achieve the success we have enjoyed in the past four seasons has been unforgettable and made us all hungry to look to achieve even more.
“I would also like to thank Pep, Txiki and the coaching staff, both for the way they have helped me to develop as a player and for pushing me to continue to improve.
“Now I just want to try and play my part in helping us be successful next season and beyond.”
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain added that Mahrez has enjoyed “a major part” in City’s success over the last four seasons and is “delighted” to tie the Algeria international down for two further seasons beyond the upcoming campaign.
Begiristain also praised Mahrez for his impact at the club as he added: “He has brought so much to the Club with his skill, talent, commitment, and desire to win evident from the moment he first arrived. I also know that Pep and the coaching staff relish working with Riyad.
“He is one of the most exciting wingers operating in the game and we are all very excited to know he will be part of our ongoing drive to try and achieve more success.”
