Gold medal favorites Alix Klineman and April Ross will play the gold medal match at the Tokyo Olympics against Australia’s Artacho Del Solar/ Clancy. On Thursday morning, the US(A-) Team posted an easy win against Switerzland’s Anouk Vergé-Dépré/ Joana Heidrich. The A-Team presented themselves as upcoming Olympic champions and won in straight sets (21:12, 21:11) to reach Friday’s gold medal match. In the quarterfinals, the US team had eliminated reigning Olympic champion Laura Ludwig and Maggie Kozuch of Germany.
In the second semifinal, Australia’s top team Artacho Del Solar/ Clancy defeated Latvian youngsters Tina Graudina and Anastasija Kravcenoka in two sets (23:21, 21:13). The gold medal match will take place on Friday 11:30am local time.
In the men’s competition, all American teams have been eliminated. The last team from the continent Alison/ Alvarao Filho of Brazil lost to Latvian surprise team Plavins/ Tocs in the quarterfinals. The Latvians will be the underdogs in today’s semifinals against Norwegian Vikings Anders Mol and Christian Sorum. The second semifinal will see Qatar’s Cherif/ Ahmed going up against reigning world champions Krasilnikov/ Stoyanovskiy of Russia.
